Great Macaroni & Cheese Bake-Off – November 24, 2018

Saturday, November 24, 2018
10am-5pm

SOLD OUT
Tickets: $50 per person / $40 for designated driver.

On the Saturday after Thanksgiving, America’s favorite comfort food gets an upgrade with help from celebrated Northern Michigan chefs. Nine top local restaurants each partner with one winery to create a perfect mac & cheese and wine pairing. Participants get to vote for the best pairing, cheesiest, and people’s choice. This annual event boasts friendly rivalries and has created its own loyal following. Don’t hesitate to purchase tickets, this event sells out every year!

Additional questions can be directed to Peninsula Cellars at 231.223.4050.

How it works:

Tickets go on sale September 26, 2018 at 9AM. Tickets include a souvenir glass and plate, a 3-ounce serving of gourmet Mac & Cheese at each of the nine wineries, plus at least 1.5-ounces of paired wines at each winery.

Designated Driver tickets are also available for purchase. DD ticket holders do not receive a souvenir glass, but do receive the souvenir plate, food, and non-alcoholic beverages.

When you purchase your ticket, you will choose your starting winery location. Your plate and souvenir wine glass will be waiting for you at this location. After you leave your chosen winery starting point, you can select which tasting rooms you would like to visit during the event, in the order of your preference.

If you would like to schedule and purchase transportation for your group, please click the link for Traverse City tour companies & transportation below. The wineries will not provide guests any type of transportation.

All event recipes will be emailed to ticket holders following the event. They will also be available on this website. While we aim to provide a diverse selection of recipes, we cannot guarantee that recipes will meet the dietary restrictions of all guests.

The Wineries of Old Mission Peninsula encourage you to drink responsibly.

Tickets are non-refundable. Transportation not included in ticket price.

White Pine Stampede – February 3, 2018

The White Pine Stampede – the Midwest’s premier nordic event – February 3, 2018.

Established in 1977 the event has been held on the first Saturday of February every year since, with the exception of snow challenged 2012. Originally a 50 kilometer, point to point, race from Frederic to Mancelona, Michigan the race is now contested 50 kilometers or 20 kilometers from Mancelona to Shanty Creek Resorts in Bellaire. There is also a 10 kilometer timed but non competitive event available for those who wish to take a more leisurely trip.

For the past 27 years five dollars from each entry, together with other voluntary gifts, has been donated to the Children’s Hospital of Michigan Foundation. To date, more than $85,700.00 has gone to the Ophthalmology Department of the hospital.

Each entrant will receive a specially designed and dated tee shirt, when they register, as part of their entry fee.

Finishers of their chosen event will receive a medal commemorating their accomplishment as they cross the finish line.

WPS Finish

The competitors in the 50 kilometer and 20 kilometer races are divided into classifications based on the style of skiing, (classic or freestyle), gender and age. Awards will be given to the TOP THREE FINISHERS in each class.

All three events start at the Mancelona High School. Prior to the race, utilize the common area, of the school, for preparing, waxing and maybe having a pancake or two before tackling the trail. Your warm ups will be transported and made available to you at your finish. Transportation will be available to return you to your car in the school parking lot.

At the conclusion of your event, and after having located your car, feel free to join us at the Shanty Creek Summit Center for the SHORT’S BREWING POST RACE COOL DOWN. A sampling of Short’s product, together with snacks, will be available for all as they discuss the day with friends and family while viewing a slide show of the day’s events. Doors will open at 1:30 PM. The SHORTS BREWING AWARDS CEREMONY will begin promptly at 3:30 PM, in the same room. Winner or not join us for a continuation of the festivities.

We are sanctioned as a non-scored race by the United States Ski Association. We look forward to working closely with the association as we plan for the future.

We have been long affiliated with the Michigan Cup Series. It has been fun over the many decades to watch us grow together.

We look forward to seeing old friends again and making new friends. The race committee and the communities of Mancelona and Bellaire welcome you to join us on the first Saturday of February. Become a part of our tradition.
